I was traveling through the rural community of Dowling, Michigan in my work as a Realtor recently, and paused to take a photo of this tree with its backdrop against the morning sky. It was not what one could consider to be a living tree any longer, although there does appear to be a small branch trying to grow from it.
It at one time clearly was a wonderfully large tree as one can see by the remains of its trunk, and probably saw a lot of change transpire around it over the century or more that it lived. Providing that a tree can see as we see with eyes. For me, I like to imagine they perceive their surroundings somehow, much like in stories from Tolkien or other authors. Despite it obviously already having seen its glory days as a tree with all of its leaves in full grandeur, it still endures which needless to say, is inspirational in its own way.
