Whenever I close out a year, I try to reflect on my life and see what I have accomplished in the last year. I do not try to dwell on the bad things that happened, but instead focus on all the good in my life in the last twelve months. As the old year closes out, it is not only a time to look back, but also to look forward.
How will this year compare to next year? The script is in your hands. Take some time, and really look at what you have accomplished in 2012 today. Was it what you wanted? Are you where you want to be? Did you follow a path of your own choosing, or one chosen for you?
As the years have rolled by I have come to realize that if I do not put down a plan, a plan will occur without me. Life will invent one, or someone else will. If I do not author my own journey, someone else surely will. Think about that for a moment. Do you really want someone else at the wheel of your destiny or responsible for you fulfilling your dreams?
I highly recommend that you draw up some goals, for yourself for the coming year, no matter how simple or complex. I prefer simple, as it always seems to get done much easier. Whatever goals are, make sure they are above what you have already done, but at the same time obtainable with some industry. Then set some time targets with when you will reach them. This can become your plan of action for your path in the coming year.
Also do not worry about changing them. Life changes, so your goals should not be permanently etched in stone. Be willing to re-write them as you go along, but what is most important is that you control the direction you are heading, and not someone else.
Have a prosperous New Year in 2013!
